The Sneaker That Could Save A Life
By Bethany Wilshaw
Many of you may have heard the saying “Healing is not linear” something we know to be true and Nike have just affirmed this notion through their newest sneaker in collaboration with Psychotherapist and mental health advocate Liz Beecroft and WeAreCultivator.
These Air Max 270’s Reacts are adequately named ‘In my feels’. They are styled with the colour green which is widely known to represent mental health awareness. Instead of the usual sleek Nike tick, there is a squiggle like Nike swish to represent how healing is not linear, nor straightforward. The sneakers feature two text details, on the back of each heel is the sneaker name “In my feels” and on the tongue “Have a nice day.”
Via instagram Liz said: “Creating these sneakers was a way for me to combine both of my passions into one and to be able to raise awareness and advocate for mental health within the sneaker community. Even though the sneakers are sold out, this conversation shouldn’t end.”
Although the sneakers are a bit pricey at $180 (£144) a portion of the proceeds are going to the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention, which is a very worthy cause.
It would be great to see more designs like this in the future, especially in the UK.
